Dojo Etiquette & Rules
It's really important for everyone that classes remain safe and enjoyable.
Whilst every class should be fun, you MUST follow the dojo rules at all times, otherwise you may not be allowed to participate.
- Remove outdoor clothing and shoes prior to entering the dojo.
- Always bow when entering and leaving the dojo.
- Be on time. If you are late for the start of the class, warm up at the back of the class until you are invited to join.
- When asked to line up, do so quickly and quietly.
- Listen carefully and sincerely to all instructions.
- Do not talk or distract others during class.
- Always bow to fellow students and instructors with sincerity and appreciation.
- Maintain your Gi (Uniform) in good condition. Never wear a torn, stained or wrinkled Gi.
- No food or drink is allowed in the dojo. (Exept Water)
- Let Sensei know if you expect a lengthy absence from class.
- Always let your Sensei know if you are injured or ill.
- Remove all jewellery.
- You must get permission to use any of the equipment.
- Keep the changing area clean and orderly.
- Be aware of your appearance. You should be clean and neat. Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short and clean.
- Do not lean or sit against the walls.
- Follow rules of good sportsmanship before, during and after each activity or game. If you cannot comply with this rule, you will not participate.
- Acknowledge corrections or constructive criticism regardless of age or rank.
- Follow all instructions your Sensei gives you. We will not ask you to perform beyond your capabilities.
- Use the lavatory before class to avoid interuptions.
- If you must leave the training area for anything, get permission first.
- If you have any questions, raise your hand and wait until the Sensei calls on you.
- Respect others, your surroundings, your intructors and YOURSELF.
- Be the best you can be. Do your best, try your best and strive for improvement.
